The Sentry Winner’s Circle: August
Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii – The Sentry marks the opening event of the 2024 PGA TOUR Regular Season at The Plantation Course at Kapalua from Jan. 4-7. The TOUR’s annual stop on Maui welcomes TOUR winners from the previous calendar year, including FedExCup Fall winners, and the top 50 players from the final FedExCup standings. With his recent titles during the month of August, Lucas Glover is the latest player to qualify for The Sentry, while Viktor Hovland captured his third and fourth titles of the season, including the FedExCup.
Wyndham Championship
Glover defeated Russell Henley and Byeong Hun An by two strokes to earn his fifth TOUR title, and first since the 2021 John Deere Classic. The 43-year-old’s 72-hole total of 260 marked the lowest of his TOUR career as he became one of two players aged 40 or older with multiple wins in the last three seasons, joining Stewart Cink. The title qualified Glover for his fourth trip to The Sentry where his best finish was sixth in 2006.
FedEx St. Jude Championship
Glover beat Patrick Cantlay with a par-4 on the first playoff hole to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship for his sixth career TOUR victory, and second in as many weeks. The South Carolina native became the first player 40 years or older to win back-to-back tournaments on TOUR since Vijay Singh in 2008 and marked the first multiple win season for Glover since joining the TOUR in 2004.
BMW Championship
Hovland defeated Scottie Scheffler and Matt Fitzpatrick by two strokes after posting his career-low round (61), which marked the lowest final round score in BMW Championship and FedExCup Playoffs history. The 25-year-old picked up his fifth career TOUR title and second of the season, earning multiple wins for the first time in a season on TOUR. The Norwegian previously qualified for a return trip to The Sentry via his win at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday in June.
TOUR Championship
Hovland became the 2023 FedExCup Champion after defeating Xander Schauffele by five strokes at the PGA TOUR’s final event of the season for his sixth career TOUR title. The Norwegian became the fourth player in history to win the BMW Championship and the FedExCup in the same season, joining Tiger Woods (2007, 2009), Billy Horschel (2014) and Patrick Cantlay (2021). The 25-year-old also joined Henrik Stenson (2013), Rory McIlroy (2016, 2019, 2022) and Justin Rose (2018) as players from Europe to win the FedExCup.
