Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii – The Sentry Tournament of Champions returns to The Plantation Course at Kapalua in January as the opening event of the 2024 PGA TOUR Season. The TOUR’s annual stop on Maui welcomes TOUR winners from the previous calendar year and the top 30 players from the final FedExCup standings. With their recent victories, Jon Rahm, Si Woo Kim and Max Homa are among the first players to qualify for the 2024 Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Sentry Tournament of Champions

Rahm earned his eighth career PGA TOUR victory at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions, defeating Collin Morikawa by two strokes. After starting the day seven strokes back, the Spaniard equaled the largest-come-from-behind win at The Plantation Course at Kapalua and became the first player to win the event one year after finishing runner up since Vijay Singh in 2007. The victory marked Rahm’s seventh consecutive TOUR season with a title and qualified him for a return trip to Maui next January.

Sony Open in Hawaii

After starting his round three strokes back, Kim defeated Hayden Buckley by one stroke to claim his fourth career TOUR title at Waialae Country Club. The 27-year-old became the first Korean player since K.J. Choi (2008) to win the Sony Open in Hawaii and marked his first victory since the 2021 American Express. The win qualified Kim for his fourth trip to the Sentry Tournament of Champions where he finished T23/2022, 10/2018 and T30/2017 in three previous starts.

The American Express

Rahm, the 2018 American Express champion, became the event’s 10th multiple winner after defeating Davis Thompson by one stroke at the Pete Dye Stadium Course at PGA West. The victory marked the 28-year-old’s ninth career TOUR title as he became the first player to win in back-to-back starts on TOUR since Rory McIlroy (2022 TOUR Championship, 2022 CJ CUP in South Carolina). The win moved Rahm from No. 4 to No. 1 in the FedExCup, claiming the top spot for the first time in his career.

Farmers Insurance Open

Entering the final round trailing Sam Ryder by five strokes, Homa shot a final-round 66 to earn his sixth career TOUR title and move to No. 2 in the FedExCup standings. The victory was the 32-year-old’s fourth win in his native state of California (2021 Genesis Invitational, 2021 and 2022 Fortinet Championship). Homa’s win qualified him for his fourth trip to Maui and the Sentry Tournament of Champions where he finished T3/2023, T15/2022 and T25/2020.
