William McGirt

First Appearance Qualifying win: the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide

William McGirt is among the first timers at the Sentry Tournament of Champions following a 2015-16 season that saw the Spartanburg, S.C., native get his breakthrough victory at the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide in his 165th start on the PGA TOUR. The win was the highlight of his best career season on the PGA TOUR, which included a runner up and five other top 10s en route to an appearance in the season finale at the TOUR Championship.

A 64 in the third round at Muirfield Village Golf Club moved McGirt into a tie for the lead with 2013 champion Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland prior to Sunday’s final round. The 36-year-old’s steady, bogey-free 1-under 71 resulted in a sudden-death playoff with Jon Curran. On the second extra hole, McGirt’s par was good enough for his first career PGA TOUR win.
