Second Appearance (Best Finish: T6, 2016) Qualifying win: Sony Open in Hawaii
Fabian Gomez returns to Kapalua for the second-consecutive season after making the Sony Open in Hawaii his second career victory on the PGA TOUR. The victory came one week after Gomez fired opening rounds of 68-66 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions en route to a T6 finish.
The 37-year-old Argentine began the final round four strokes back of Brandt Snedeker and Zac Blair, but carded a career-low 8-under-par 62, which included seven-consecutive birdies on holes 6-12, to join Snedeker in a playoff. Gomez secured the title with a birdie-4 on the second extra hole.
“I felt good all week long and was able to put on a great round today,” Gomez said after the victory. “Once I got on that streak of seven birdies in a row it made me feel like I could win the tournament.”
