Sixth Appearance (Best Finish: T4, 2013) Qualifying win: Genesis Open (Formerly Northern Trust Open)
Bubba Watson is making his sixth start at the Sentry Tournament of Champions after winning on the PGA TOUR for the ninth time in his career. The two-time Masters champion has now won on TOUR at least once in six of the last seven seasons. He finished the TOUR Championship 21st in the FedExCup thanks to several strong early-season performances that included his second career victory at the Genesis Open.
Watson began the final round of the Genesis Open one shot clear of a group of three players that included Dustin Johnson. The long-hitting lefty was able to hold off a packed leaderboard with a 3-under 68, which was capped off by a birdie-birdie-par finish to preserve the one-stroke victory at The Riviera Country Club.
“Being patient. Made some mistakes but I stayed patient,” Watson said of his key to success. “I stayed committed and that's what we're working on. The last five years of my life on the golf course and working on the head game. The physical game is there. It's just staying patient, focusing on one shot at a time and staying committed.”
